J.R. Smith told the media he’s in panic mode regarding the Knicks’ 3-8 start to the season, but not all his teammates feel the same way. Despite squandering a good opportunity to beat the Indiana Pacers, the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last season, the Knicks still remain just 1.5 games back from the Philadelphia 76ers for the Division lead – that’s how bad the Atlantic is this season. Carmelo Anthony believes the team just needs to kick into gear.

The Knicks are riddled with injury so far leaving Anthony to shoulder more of the load – last night he finished with 30 points and 18 rebounds, a new season-high – but that wasn’t enough to earn the win. The Knicks lost 103-96 in overtime.

After the game ‘Melo didn’t comment on the refereeing decisions late in the game, but did say it felt like the Knicks were stuck in the mud.

“When you’re going through times like this it seems like nothing is going your way,” Anthony said. “Like I said, you’re stuck in mud.”
